“Boxing at Uluru”                       Photography: Oct 1981 & April 1984

Destination: Australia, Victoria, Northern Territory, Uluru

Subject: Kangaroos “Boxing” with Uluru in the background.

Uluru, or Ayers Rock is a massive sandstone monolith in
Australia’s arid red centre. Uluru reaches a height of about
850m and is estimated to be some 600 million years old.
Kangaroos engage in “boxing” over mating rites and other
mostly territorial disputes.
During a “boxing” bout, a kangaroo can actually balance
his entire body on his tail, kicking forward with
his powerful legs.
