WHY CHINESE SILK ?
Silk production, known as Sericulture, is limited to ten nations with China the premier producer. There is no Sericulture in Australia.
First developed in ancient China silk remained an exclusive Chinese product for many millennia. Being an exquisite, precious fabric made it one of the most zealously guarded secrets in history.
The writings of Confucius recounts that in the 27th century BCE, whilst having tea under a mulberry tree, the 14year old Empress Lei Tzu discovered a silkworm’s cocoon when it fell into her cup. She then founded the art of Sericulture.
Reflecting ancient traditions this pure silk scarf is crafted in the renowned silk producing region south of the Yangtze River Delta – the eastern perimeter of the famous Silk Road.
FABRIC: PURE SILK- The Queen of natural fabrics, luxurious, exquisite with rich vibrant colours and the heavenly feeling of softness and beauty against your skin!
This Pure Silk Chiffon ( AWTA Tested as 100%Silk and colourfast ) is a sheer fabric with a soft, beautiful drape and fine grain texture. It is strong yet has a ‘float in the air’ lightness with colours coming through on both sides.
This Silk Chiffon Scarf is 8mm (35gms per square metre) which is slightly heavier with superior colour and durability than the standard light weight 6mm (26gms per square metre).
Silk Twill (12mm: 45gms per square metre ) and Silk Chiffon are very different in terms of weight, touch, colour vibrancy and feel.
CARE: Enjoy your silk garment – our printing techniques produce colours that will not run or fade.
With fundamental care, this silk scarf will maintain it’s vibrant colours and quality ‘Silk’ feel for many years.
As Silk is a natural fibre avoid drying in direct sunlight. Also, avoid contact with bleaches or solvents with alcohol such as some hairsprays.
Hand Washing – preferred
Use lukewarm water and a mild non-alkaline soap such as baby shampoo. Avoid soaking and rinse with a few tablespoons of distilled white vinegar added to the clear water. Avoid wringing or twisting and roll in a towel then hang to dry. Avoid using dryers.
Most wrinkles can be removed by hanging the scarf in the shower and letting humidity work.
While the scarf is hanging a steam iron can be used carefully avoiding wetting locally.
If necessary use a cool iron setting (Silk Setting) on the back of the damp scarf – avoid too much heat.
FINISH: Neat machine hemmed
