“Stamps from the past”        Photography: March 2017

Destination: Australia.

Subject: Collection of early Stamps

From 1850 until 1913 Australian States issued their own individual postage stamps. Most portrayed portraits of Queen Victoria.

The early Tasmanian issues featured the state’s name given by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman in 1642. He titled the land ‘Van Diemen’s Land’ to honour his patron Anthony Van Diemen.
