PHOTOGRAPHY: October 1982
DESTINATION: China, Canton, (Guangzhou)
STORY: Young students exercising in the School Quadrangle.
This photograph was taken in 1982 on Assignment for Thai International Airlines where the focus was to capture the Scenery and life in Mainland Communist China. Exercises were not limited to Students!
“Leaving Guangzhou we departed on the overnight train to Beijing with its solid, cramped interior. Having been analysed by every pair of curious eyes and worn out our voices and we finally fell asleep on the bare wood seating. In what seemed like a mere second later, we were woken by loud blaring music. A stern faced Red Guard, who looked like he’d relished every battle over the previous 50 years, ordered everyone to stand. It was 5am and for all passengers morning exercise time!”
Touch the Silk…View the Art…Share The Story….“The artwork for our silk scarf collection is re-living our photography in a fresh way. Using a variety of techniques our challenge is to create a captivating image, often from nature’s details, that looks beautiful as a scarf.”
INCLUDED WITH YOUR SCARF: Designed Bluyonda Image box with magnetic lid/Tag with story about the image/Tag with history of Silk and Artist’s resume.
WHY CHINESE SILK?
Silk production, known as Sericulture, is limited to ten nations with China the premier producer. There is no Sericulture in Australia.
First developed in ancient China silk remained an exclusive Chinese product for many millennia. Being an exquisite, precious fabric made it one of the most zealously guarded secrets in history.
The writings of Confucius recounts that in the 27th century BCE, whilst having tea under a mulberry tree, the 14year old Empress Lei Tzu discovered a silkworm’s cocoon when it fell into her cup. She then founded the art of Sericulture.
Reflecting ancient traditions this pure silk scarf is crafted in the renowned silk producing region south of the Yangtze River Delta – the eastern perimeter of the famous Silk Road.
FABRIC: PURE SILK- The Queen of natural fabrics, luxurious, exquisite with rich vibrant colours and the heavenly feeling of softness and beauty against your skin!
This Pure Silk Chiffon ( AWTA Tested as 100%Silk and colourfast ) is a sheer fabric with a soft, beautiful drape and fine grain texture. It is strong yet has a ‘float in the air’ lightness with colours coming through on both sides.
This Silk Chiffon Scarf is 8mm (35gms per square metre) which is slightly heavier with superior colour and durability than the standard light weight 6mm (26gms per square metre).
Silk Twill (12mm: 45gms per square metre ) and Silk Chiffon are very different in terms of weight, touch, colour vibrancy and feel.
CARE: Enjoy your silk garment – our printing techniques produce colours that will not run of fade.
With fundamental care this silk scarf will maintain it’s vibrant colours and quality ‘Silk’ feel for many years.
As Silk is a natural fibre avoid drying in direct sunlight. Also avoid contact with bleaches or solvents with alcohol such as some hairsprays.
Hand Washing – preferred
Use luke warm water and a mild non alkaline soap such as baby shampoo. Avoid soaking and rinse with a few tablespoons of distilled white vinegar added to the clear water. Avoid wringing or twisting and roll in a towel then hang to dry. Avoid using dryers.
Most wrinkles can be removed by hanging the scarf in the shower and letting humidity work.
While the scarf is hanging a steam iron can be used carefully avoiding wetting locally.
If necessary use a cool iron setting (Silk Setting) on the back of the damp scarf – avoid too much heat.
FINISH: Neat machine hemmed
